Second Perth Entrepreneurs Networking Event

The second Perth Entrepreneurs Networking Event has been scheduled for November 22, at the Leederville Hotel on between 7 and 9p.m. If you’re interested in attending please email perth_entrepreneurs@yahoo.com.au, with an RSVP, or contact Viveca Trader on 0422 282067 or Richard Giles on 0403 188222 for more information.

The last one was very successful, and we aiming to expand the number of people attending this event. So if you came last time, we’re asking that you bring one or more others. It’s really up to all of us to make this successful.

Inaugural Network Event

Last night we had the first Perth Entrepreneur network event at the Leederville Hotel. I didn’t count the people attending, but Viveca mentioned the number 15 to me near the end of the evening. It was held in an upstairs room of the Hotel, which I’d never seen before. It had the ambiance of an exclusive club, dark colours and faux leather chairs. It just needed a little smoke and it’d looked right for a movie scene about an out of the way poker club–I thought it looked great.

I didn’t get a chance to chat with everyone, but those people I did had some interesting stories and thoughts. It was certainly diverse, including engineers, project planners, web developers, marketing, and sales. Which is exactly as we hoped. We’d prefer not to pigeon hole the group, and reach out to a range of professions.

Viveca and I have already talked about the second networker, and we’re also in the early planning stages of an event that will include a presentation from a local respected business man or company. So stay tuned.

RSVPs Are Mounting

The first Perth Entrepreneurs event is shaping up to be very well attended. Over a dozen people have RSVPed, which for a Perth event is a great response, as I personally believe that it’s going to grow from here.

We’re also in discusses with a few people about a future event that will include a presentation. We’d like to help inform members, and so we’ve started approaching very high profile business people and organisations in Perth.

There is still time to RSVP to next weeks networker. So feel free to send an email to perth_entrepreneurs@yahoo.com.au.

Why We Started Perth Entrepreneurs

About a month ago, Viveca and I exchanged a few emails. We were both keen to join some local groups that meant we could meet some like-minded business people in Perth. I’d already spent some time looking for local organisations to join, but didn’t find much, and in some instances the barrier to entry was high. So, as entrepreneurs are want to do, we decided to start our own.

Next week we have our first event: a networker at the Leederville Hotel.

The intent is for the events to be low cost, so in instances where there is food, drink, or presenters, we’ll charge enough to only cover costs. It will also be a network powered by the members, taking on board suggestions, and flexible enough that anyone in the group can lead new endeavors.

Saying that, I’ll be approaching it from a little bit of a selfish angle. You see I’m in the middle of starting my own business, currently “code named” Web2Thing (a tongue in cheek poke at the current Internet buzzword), and am looking for investors and board members. So amongst the sharing of ideas, advice, and experiences, I’ll be hunting for people to jump on board.

Please feel free to contact us, you can find our details in the About section, and if you’re keen to join or contribute, drop us a line.

Innovation Happens

To launch our new blog, I thought we’d post today’s press announcement. At the very least we’ll get our own PR :) .

A group of high profile Perth entrepreneurs have a new catch-cry for the state of Western Australia: “Innovation happens.” They believe that Perth’s isolation creates self-determination, and is the perfect breeding ground for entrepreneurialism.

Perth Entrepreneurs is a new network of self-motivated business people in the most isolated city in the world. The not-for-profit group aims to connect like-minded people with a passion for building or investing in business.

However, just because it is Perth based, doesn’t mean the group is limiting their scope.

“Technologies, like the Internet, mean it really doesn’t matter where you live these days,” says Richard Giles, one of the entrepreneurs who started the network event, “I can live in Perth and enjoy the lifestyle, while building a global company.”

It is sentiments like this that the group plans to encourage and nurture by bringing people together. They aim to offer each other tips, tricks, support, and build invaluable personal networks. The group also will invite speakers to impart their own entrepreneurial wisdom.

After looking locally for a low-cost support network, Giles and co-founder Viveca Trader decided to create their own not-for-profit network of go-getters.

“Networking has become synonymous with the building and expanding of a business new and old. It is the by-word of what modern business grows and develops on. It is instrumental in any marketing plan,” says Trader.

“Modern and dynamic people create modern and dynamic businesses. By bringing a cross section of Perth’s entrepreneurial population together we want to create an exchange of new and exciting opportunities.”

“I’d like to see Perth be Australia’s hub for entrepreneurial spirit.” Giles says, “Our isolation is quickly becoming obsolete, and it makes sense that we let the rest of the world know our drive.”

Perth Entrepreneurs will hold its first free networking event at the Leederville Hotel on September 5, between 7 and 9p.m. If you’re interested in attending please email perth_entrepreneurs@yahoo.com.au, with an RSVP, or contact Viveca Trader on 0422 282067 or Richard Giles on 0403 188222 for more information.
